My X has been developing some pretty aggressive rattles in the front suspension while driving over the rough city streets we have this time of year. Are there any bushings I can look at replacing? I have checked the ball joints and they seem to be tight.....or maybe frozen, as it has been around zero and below lately! Thanks in advance!
Chuck it's really process of elimination here, start with your swaybar end links and bushings. They seem to go first up there on our ex's also check the upper shock bushings to see if they are still in one piece (that was my problem on my last ex).
Also, don't worry about the cold maybe snowseeker can help you out this is t shirt and flip flop weather for him.
I know its not the shocks, they are new. Where do you buy the sway bar bushings? Can you get them at a local auto parts store, or are there better options? Thanks for the replies, guys!
Shaking may not tell you. Rubber was visible and yanking on them felt tight due to the weight load. Decided to replace them when replacing the springs. The old ones were noticeably worn when removed with enough play to rattle when the weight goes up and down. They were easy enough to remove that I would do that for the inspection. Though the parts are cheap enough that you might want to just replace them at the same time.
Mine is clunking. I believe drivers side shock bushing is worn and the sway bar links too. I think energy suspension sells replacements for the sway bar end links. The new bilsteins I'm ordering as soon as it warms up should fix the shock bushing.
With clunking also check the sway bar bushings on the axle. Mine were trashed at 100k miles and allowing the sway bar to move around too much on bumps or around corners. They didn't look bad until you saw one sitting next to a new one. No more sounds while turning!
You would be surprised how fast rubber gets destroyed by salt/road grime.
You can get predone replacement links or press your own bushings in.
Summit, Rock Auto, etc have options available.
