5.4 ticking and shaking low rpm
Hi, i have an 08 F150 Lariat with a 5.4 engine with 139xxx km on it and like the description says.. It has the "famous engine ticking"... Bought that truck 4month ago and noticed the ticking 2month ago while going close to a building, then it startet to do it constantly at idle and while driving. You could hear it inside while driving too from the passenger side near the firewall. Went to a mechanic, he didn't know what it is...went to ford and told them to check cam phaser(did some research), they told me phaser is okay and that i need a new engine (Wouldn't go under the valve cover). Well it would be 12000bux. My warenty covers only 3000 out of it... I wouldn't believe in it and went to a 3rd mechanic, he was suspecting injectors or manifold leak, but it wasn't that. He said might be lifters, changed the oil to see if it sounds any different(last friday), after 100km it got quite and i cant hear it anymore while driving and sometimes its even gone while parking. But now i run in a new problem while driving through town at low speed low rpm at like traffic lights or turning my truck it starts to run rough and shakes like crazy and my lights flicker.. Or if i back up and put it in drive it shakes too. If i crank it a bit it goes back to normal. But it only started to do that after the oil change and at random times... But at low speed/rpm
So what do you guys think? Is the ticking and the rought idle shake one thing? Could it be the lifters?

I had a 2004 Lariat (5.4L) that did the same thing. It got wiped out in a tornado in 2011. Guess what, bought a 2005, same color, Lariat also (must have been a comfort thing since we lost everything, house, cars, pets, etc). It did the same thing too. It annoyed me but those two trucks ran like scalded cats. I have since sold the 2005 and got a 2013. Great truck but that 2005 took off way faster than this new one.
