My new 79 F250

I finally got to see and drive my new truck I bought last May. It is a 79 F250 2WD Supercab. I was pretty excited to see it was almost exactly as the seller described. It runs great, drives down the highway like a dream.
A couple issues have been dealt with so far:
leaky master cylinder
leaky back sliding window
A few things need fixed:
the sun visor on the DS needs a new pin end (instead of the wood screw the PO used)
Tailgate has had a very poor bondo job done on it. Also PS rear quarter panel has a bad patch.
DS door panel has a couple screws through it and one crack needs repaired.
Power brake booster inop- feels like manual brakes.
Needs some matching wheels and tires.
Sliding window latch broke
Rearview mirror MIA.
Door bottoms need a little attention, as well as around roof seams, both have slight amount of rust starting to show.

Thanks, I really dig the green interior. And the 460 has gobs of power. Can't wait to get it up to Alaska this summer so I can drive and work on it more. Keeping it at my parents in MT until then.

So I picked up a divorced NP205 and a 1995 ball joint Dana 60 to convert this over to 4x4. I also have a 78 f250 (400 engine) 4x4 with a trashed body. I was planning to splice the front of the 78 4x4 frame onto my 79 supercab 4x2, use an adapter to mount the 460 /C6. I dont have both frames in the same location yet, so I can't really measure anything to compare.

Anybody see too many issues with this? I'm not sure if you can mount the TC shifter onto the 2wd C6. TIA

what kind of springs are you going to run in the front?

The later model ball joint 60's do not have the spring pads at the correct location. You will need to fabricate something or convert to coil spring front.

I was guessing I'd run the 95 springs, as they came with the axle. Either move the spring pads on the axle , or fab up some perches for the frame. Whichever looks easiest once I see all the parts at once. Do you have any experience which route is easiest?
My plans for the truck is not really for any extreme wheeling, so I dont have a need for these extreme suspension set ups that I see a lot of guys building.

do a google search...lots of pictures out there...it is not easy to move the pads on the axle.

you would have to fabricate perches on the outside of the frame...but then there are steering issues.

Could go coil spring setup but again requires some fab and additional steering components.

Subscribing to keep tabs on your 4x4 conversion. I will be attempting a coil spurng 4 linked dana 44 front end on mine this summer. Good luck! And nice super cab!

Well I may be jumping the gun on having an actual build thread. I've collected most of the parts, but the truck is still 3000 miles away! I'm going to try to get it to Alaska this summer. Hopefully then I can get going on it in the next year.

So what else is new!

Rearview mirror MIA.
D3AZ-6504114-A .. Plastic Visor Pin-Includes Rubber Tip (that is also available by itself) / Reproduced by Carpenter.

1973/79: F100/350 & misc Passenger Cars / 1975/91 Econoline / 1978/79 Bronco.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EOTZ-1040860-A (replaced D0TZ-1040860-A) .. Sliding Rear Window Latch / Available from Ford.

This has been a notorious POS since day one! It's plastic, has to be folded over upon itself to latch. Within a short time, the little charmer breaks in two.

Applications: 1970/96 F100/350 - 1997 F250/350.
--------------------------------------------------------
D0AZ-17700-A .. Inside Day/Night Rear View Mirror / Black vinyl covered-Paint to match / 12" long x 2 1/2" wide / Reproduced by Carpenter.

Mirror glues to the windshield, since it's no longer there, might be found inside the glove box or under the seat.

Applications: 1970/91: F100/350 & misc Passenger Cars (LTD/Crown Vic/Grand Marquis and etc.) / 1975/91 Econoline / 1978/91 Bronco.
