You can have all the safety equipment you want - leathers, kevlar, helmet, all of that.
It suddenly all becomes meaningless about a second or so between when you think:
"THIS IS GONNA HURT"
~and you hear the crunch, before you pass out.
That's also why I gave up on bicycling in my area. I realized the odds of survival were nil...
Funny about that - the last thing you remember is the sound of it, and a kind of numb feeling.
NO! I'm not going to put myself at risk again.
If I build a chopper one day, it will just be to mess around with, and maybe putt around locally. The travellog speaks true - they get you killed not because of your own skill - but because of stupid people that mow wonderful people down in their ignorance....
From what I have seen, there are a lot of people who should not be driving because they do not even have the intelligence required to read a COMIC BOOK.

Speaking of trashing my OWN body here's a new look at the "Great War on Trees" at my place~
There's actually 95% of a cut down tree hanging from the vines tangled in the tops of that mess, making for a real dicey situation for tomorrow.
And the source of all those vines? A single runaway grape:
I think I'm real close to 50% with this project. I have three trees I want to hack down in the next day or two (saplings don't count)

Happy Wednesday everybody! I have been on the sidelines with a sinus infection----came out of nowhere and kicked my butt the past 4 days. I think the antibiotics have finally started to get the upper hand, so I'm back to work for awhile today. I'm most bummed about being too sick to go to the get together on Saturday....hope those who went enjoyed it.
Sucked being inside most of this pretty weekend, but I did manage to venture into the sun on a walk about the estate a couple times.
Have a great day!

Since all I've been getting in terms of help from local tree cutters and the electric company so far is:
a) I can't get to it for several weeks, and it's gonna cost more than you thought.
b) That's not our job, but the tree trimmers ought to be around in six months
I have re-thought this thing next to my shop, and I think what I am seriously going to do is run braces (blue lines) in pairs two feet above eachother up these twin trunks (made out of 2x4's) with a ladder nailed to the right end as you view this image.
At the top I will put together a working platform very much like a tree stand.
It can be taken down in reverse order, and the tree sectioned off as I back on down, but I also can't help thinking that if I leave most of it in place after taking down the dangerous parts of it all - I will have one heck of an observation perch for the fourth of July this year!!!
Materials Required:
20 8' 2x4's
06 10' or 12' 2x4's
Large box of 16d nails
All of the two by fours and most of the nails can be salvaged back out of it.
