460 short block question

I have a friend who used to build marine engines who is helping me with my upgraded engine. Of the two late (D9TE) short blocks, both have bad cranks, beyond fixing. One is warped .040, the other is .060 under as removed. The only other one I have is still in the truck in the 1986 short block.

I have access to an unbored 1977 block, and my friend has a fair stock of standard internally balanced 460 cranks from marine engines.

My question, if I use the 77 block and internally balanced crank, do I need to find the older rods ar can we use the either 1990 or 1993 rods out of the other short blocks?

Yes you will need to get the older rods. You should measure the deck height. Get the casting number off of the block to verify. There were a couple different deck heights in the pre-D9TE blocks(10.322" deck). I know they were shorter, but not sure how much. Sent from my iPad using IB AutoGroup

Edit: Unless it was the pistons that were different height????

You are correct about the deck height, we are going to deck it probably .020 anyway to get the compression up around 9.2-9.4:1
