As Zark-Eh said, maybe the printed circuit is bad or dirty. I have read a lot of posts where owners have cleaned up the copper circuit board where the lights plug into It with an eraser. I tried that with not much luck. I started out with no lights also. I was successful with some steel wool and a wire brush. I cleaned each bulb, socket pins, and the circuit board with the wire. When I put them back in, they all worked. Might be the answer?

 

Guten tag. I'm curious to know if the German laws pertaining to old cars are as stringent as I've heard. A friend told me that basically any modifications to the car at all, makes the car not eligible to be on the roads on Germany. What has your experience been so far?

I can't imagine filling up one of these trucks in liters. My 78 has dual tanks, and when gas was higher, it was over 100 bucks to fill both tanks.

Maybe when you get a chance, you can upload some pictures of it. Must be quite a sight, and I'm sure it gets lots of looks.

Oh yes! Laws are quite stringent. But the guys don't know much about Ford Trucks and so they overlooked the Edelbrock Intake and the Manifolds and rated it with a "Classic Car Certificate" what means 99% original and in above average good shape.
To be honest, I haven't seen one like this over here for 6-7 years! Later models and chevys are not so hard to see because Friedberg Army Base was just a few km from my home and US Forces are still in Gießen (40km).

 

How do you know I never served in the military? In fact...I have a VA card because: #597-15-69 USN 1962.

Don't feel bad. I hadn't had my truck very long, and I had shifted the transfer case into Neutral, and then when I went to drive it, it just sat there. I kept thinking something in the transmission had broken, and someone on here mentioned the transfer case. I felt really silly.

 

My bad, you just sounded like you had no experience with military installations in Germany....which I now understand, you being in the Navy way back then would more than likely have no reason to have experience in that country.

Hi all. Thanks for all the infomations! I took off the Dash Bezel and managed to pull the intrument cluster. (Found great hint for "disassembling" the main light switch in another thread here!) Unfortunately all the instrument bulbs are ok and cleaning the circuit connectors didn't help. And while it's not enough to find nothing faulty, the white plastic housing of the intrument cluster is crumbling apart and needs be replaced...

Does anyone know where I can get just the plastic housing for a few bucks? Dont need instruments at all...

For the first I would like to check the cluster illumination itself. Does anyone know where I have to connect 12V to "turn the lights on"? Ho can I check the Voltage regulator?

Dome light in my truck is not working, because bulb and bulb socket are missing, so I'm looking for the socket as well... 12V Voltage is there when door is open...

EDIT:Just figured out that the dome light bulb has two wire loops those wo getting hooked over the two pins I've seen. So there is no "socket" for the bulb. Bulb type should be "Rigid Loop Socket #562, 13.5V, 10 W, 0.74 AMP, T3" right?

You might check some forums such as this but for European car clubs. I'm sure others have imported these era trucks, or Econoline vans. Also some of the European Ford products might have had similar clusters during that time, might check any automobile salvage yards around there as well. You never know what might be available.
