low operating temp, t-stat bad?

Lets make sure we have it right;
You changed the T-stat and got the engine coolant temps back to 190. It's been holding 190s since?
When you mean air out of it, are you saying the heater is blowing cold air and hot sometimes?
Have you checked coolant level since you did the job? And I read it was holding steady, correct?

I have checked it, I did add some more last night but I have always had some in the degas bottle. Also like I said the reason I think itnmqy have a air pocket is all worked great until the water temp wouldn't getbabove 160 but I still had constant heat coming out just not hot heat.

I noticed driving in this morning the temps on the scan gauge were fluctuating from 174 to 200 degrees, seems 200 and above I have heat or above 2000 rpm. Since I had no issues before except it would only reach 160 degrees I'm thinking the t-stat I put in is crap. Anyone's thoughts on this? Also when it was getting to 190 with the old stat it always worked good but I've only had the truck since June so not a lot of cold weather to base my experience on.

Is the water valve on the hose going into the heater coming from let's say the alternator area? Sitting at idle in the driveway after I got home from work it was 185 degrees according to the scan gauge blowing hot air. It started blowing hot air about a half mile from home and the drive is about 9 miles.

EDIT: maybe try removing the vacuum hose from it. (vacuum is supposed to close valve, stopping water from going to heater core)
