I'm a new member here and was curious how many other 4X4 van owners are on this site. Anyone else out there? Here's a couple pics of my recently purchased beast.

 

Cool van---looks like one heavy duty urban assault vehicle.

Did you purchase it as shown or do some/most of the build out?

 

Thanks! It was built by Crow's 4X4 in CA, earlier this year. They start with old fleet vans, strip them down completely and do new paint etc. This one has the original 7.3 psd and trans, but the rest of the running gear came from an 07 F350. I bought it sight unseen on the internet and had my brother fly down to AZ to pick it up. Looking forward to checking it out next time I am home. I don't get much time off at home, so doing any of the work just wasn't an option for me.

 

That's an interesting approach to this sort of conversion----has to be almost a glut of those two donor vehicles out there.

Can we be so nosey as to ask the cost of this beautiful beast?

Very cool van, bdk9. I have had 4x4 van fantasies for many years, but make do with 2wd, good tires, and posi on my van.

If I was big into serious off roading and wanted to carry *stuff*, it would definitely be an appealing idea to convert a van. I hope that you will use it for more challenging driving than parking it at the mall

Thanks for all the positive comments. I am looking forward to actually getting to drive it next month. By the time I add the exhaust, tuner, and second fuel tank, I will have around 26k in it. Seems like a lot for a '99, but there has been a lot done to it. I hope to get a lot of use out of it. The photos I posted were actually taken by the seller. I will try and post some new ones after I finish a few mods that I have in mind...

 

That is one sick rig, dude...cant wait to see the interior!

Interior is completely stock right now. Not sure what changes I will make inside. No idea on a name... I imagine I'll think of something.

BDK9 $25K for your van isn't outrageous at all. Its not just a '99 van, its an entity totally apart from and not really subject from BS things like Kelly Blue Book and other such evaluations.

While the engine, transmission and other bolt-on parts might be subject to maintenance costs its value will long outlive anything a bone-bare stock '99 van would, by far.

 

The only issues I ran into were insurance and loan valuations. My agent had to get a little creative to get me sufficient coverage on a van that only books at 6-7k... Tuners are also a challenge, as it seems that most are designed/programmed for the F series.

 

I am sure it isn't the normal type of vehicle that insurance and banks deal with.

As far a s a tuner, what are the big differences between the van and truck power-trains? When I briefly looked into it I remember reading that the vans don't push the boost levels due to a decreased ability to get rid of the heat. Less room for an inter-cooler......engine being much more closed in. I never looked into the trans etc.

 

Not sure of all the differences, but one of the tuner co. reps told me that boost had to be kept lower due to heat. The Turbo downtube in the E's is a smaller diameter then the F's.
