4.9 cam hear

Good afternoon, I know there was a previous topic about the longevity of the 4.9 engine, but to make sure I am doing all I can to make mine last, I'm wondering if I should change my cam gear at a specific time. It is a '95 F150 with 185000, and I believe it to have the metal gear instead of the plastic one. Also do you have to replace the camshaft if you replace the gear?

Thanks

Boy, unless you drive deep into the woods, I wouldn't worry too much about it-
the valves won't get bent if it ever failed, and some seem to go forever.

And yes, you can change just the gears.
