The 6.2L is a turd...

i have 11000 on my 2014 Xl 6.2 and i love it. i get 14 mpg.
as far as torque goes i think it is there, i can keep it under 3000 rpm pulling my 28 ft goose with a tractor on it.(under normal conditions, but there are a few hills here in missouri that warrant a 5500 rpm run)
i always had 460s before and if i am impressed with the low end of a 6.2 thats saying something

I just did a trip of just under 4,000 miles 3,700 of which had a large 8.5 x 7 x 20 trailer, 2,700 miles had about 3,500 pounds load in a 3,000 lb trailer.
Total hand calculated mileage was 8.9 mpg mostly flat terrain - up and down interstate 95 on the East Coast, no speeds over 65 mph and 99% of the 3700 miles was on the interstate.
I am very glad the price of gas has been dropping - best gas price was in Virgina $2.62 for regular

That very well could of been the case, it only had 2200 miles on it.To the other person comenting on the speed. Keep it 70 to 80 with no down shifting, my sd wont do that pulling my trailer. The van was full but not alot of big heavy stuff.

Sorry - I must have missed the part about no down shifting - but I have recently done 3 heavy trips towing a trailer that weighs in at 10,000 pounds each trip and my SD had no problem doing 80 or better along the interstate - yes it would downshift sometimes - but the truck handled the weight without any problem.

most times city driving first thing I do is turn traction off and hit tow haul. without a tune wakes it up big! the dbw blows in stock form.and as 5star states you will not get w.o.t. until 4500 rpm in stock form. ihave 31k on mine now no issues at all. learn its tricks or tune it and they get up just fine!

Calling the 6.2L a turd is such a blanketed statement. It's still one of the most powerful light duty gas engines Ford ever put into a pickup. And, I think the V10 has been overrated here. The Super Duty 6.2L- 385 hp/405 torque. V10 6.8L- 365 horsepower/456 torque. And, both engines get their maximum power and torque at higher revs, unlike a 460 per say.

If you remember that fifth and sixth gear are overdrives, and keep it out of there. Your throttle response is very different. I use tow haul mode allot, but have not tried turning off traction control.
Good idea.

My 2011 6.2 has 106K miles on it, (original spark plugs), but it sure doesn't feel like a 6 digit truck.
Of course the previous owner put all those miles on it driving back and forth across the country without a trailer.
I got 17.2 mpg (hand calculated) out of it 3 days ago on a loop test. Very happy with what I saw and how it drove.
The big test will be when I hitch up to my 8K lb. 24 foot enclosed.
So far I am loving this truck.

Thank you for making this point. Alot of the modern trucks have the "down low" when in the right gear. Turn them into he ancient 4 spd boxes and you'll be very surprised how fast 4th gear winds up.

I can see how the original poster would say the 6.2 is a turd. but after owning one for 2k miles now I don't fully agree. I initially felt that way after test driving a few 6.2's all with 3.73 gearing.
The truck is far from a "Turd", but I can see how someone would think so initially....I sure did!
One thing I always here talked about is the drive by wire doesn't let the truck go to full throttle until 4500 rpm. I just don't understand this statement? I mean when I put my foot in it, the truck downshifts, and the RPM's shoot up, but there is isn't a rush of power like you would expect for the noise the engine is making. It's almost like the tranny or torque converter is not locking up fully?? that's the only way I can explain it....
Then other times I can punch it, and it will throw your head back into the seat as I would expect it to... It just doesn't seem consistent to me? If the engine is turning high RPM's and working hard, where is the power going? I know it's there as I've felt it at other times...
so when I hear people say "the dbw doesn't let it go full throttle", that's not what I'm experiencing. it seems to go full throtlle, just not full power! if I had to explain it to someone I would say "the dbw feels like it is pulling a compression release valve somewhere"

I have to agree with the last poster as well. I got my 2015 f350 with the 6.2 engine and 4.30 gears in the beginning of November. The first time I stepped on the pedal hard I was shocked, I read this motor has almost 400 hp. How on earth can it do so little when you step on it? After driving it for a few months I have come to the same conclusion, when you put it to the floor the rpm’s just sail right up to 5000 rpm but the vehicle doesn’t jump like say my wife’s 2012 Silverado that has less horse power. I think the torque converter is slipping or its not locking up or the tranny is slipping, it has to be one of them. The engine is just screaming but very little is happening. I’d love to drop this motor into something with an old school tranny and see what it does. I don’t think the motor is a turd though something else is going on here. Why they would do that is beyond me.
