I have Hagerty on 4 cars and find the multiple car discounts unbeatable. My F1 is costing me $48 per year for full covereage.

I agree with petemcl. If you are able to use USAA they have great service.

Any other companies to consider?

My daily drivers are insured with Travelers, they want $770 a year to add the F1 Truck.

Also, have a quote from Progressive and they were ~$800.

Tried Hagerty and Geico, but both of them require enclosed lockable garages. Our house only has a carport which is enclosed on 3 sides and underneath part of the house.

I've requested a quote from StateFarm as based on what searches I've done here, they may not require the locked garage.

Are there others I should investigate? I don't qualify for USAA.

I do want to drive the truck occasionally to run errands, so need more than just "drive to car shows and events" insurance.

Thanks

Check with Grundy. I've had my insurance with them for about five years. I don't know what their garage requirements are because I have a garage. Otherwise, there are no restrictions on where, when, or how much you can drive it.

I had Hagerty. They put the wrong year down on the NY insurance card. Charged me $40 for their mistake. I refused to pay it. They said they would "let it go this time". When renewal time came..they would not renew my policy.

I have hagerty for my '65 f100 and I have had a good experience with them. Inexpensive enough and no "restrictions" to speak of. I also didn't want to have limitations on how I could use it or when I could drive it, so I asked them and they said it was ok if I used it normally.

For collector style insurance, USAA will refer you to one of two collector insurance companies they work with. I went with American Collectors. You have at least 3, maybe more driving options. 2500, 5000 and 7500. The later allows for general use. The other two limit the use to shows and or pleasure. I chose 5000 and valued at $20.000. The cost is just shy or $200 a year.
If you are going to insure it as a general use vehicle, you can use any company. Just make sure you and they agree on and put in writing, a realistic value for your truck. Without that value in the policy, they will use the cheapest valuation tool they can find. For the record, NADA is pretty realistic on their values.

I agree with this, but don't be surprised if some "regular" insurance companies won't cover your truck. My daily drivers and other policies are with Safeco and after requesting pictures and information for my '65, they said they wouldn't insure it (my truck is in pretty good original shape). I was offended!

Thanks for the responses. I filled out an online quote with Hagerty on Friday. They looked good, but called me on Saturday morning to let me know they had the garage requirement and therefore could not offer me a policy.

Grundy seems to have the same requirement based on their online quote system.

I'll see what happens with StateFarm or just go with the standard insurance guys for the moment until I can sort something out.

When I did a quote thru Progresdive the other day I included my 1950 F1. They used Hagerty for their classic cars....not sure if they all farm out to the speciality companies?........FYI
Previous experience as old dan stated, farmers quote was close to Hagerty when I last checked.

PS
When I was crashed into Hagerty service was excellent. Fast and fair.

I have State Farm For the 1953 F350 and they just sent a letter this weekend cancelling my policy because they just realized it is not a car.

I've had State Farm on my 46 Tudor for 11 years, at stated and agreed value and no problems on claims. When I asked for a quote on my 48 F1 I was turned down so I will be changing both over to Grundy. The difference in premium between Hagerty and Grundy is substantial is Grundy's favor. Grundy will insure all types of vehicles even Motor Homes.

When I insured my F350 and then later, my F4 with SF, they took detailed pictures of both. I have six policies with SF.
