Alright quick update i drove it and it shifted smoother than butter for ten miles on and off the gas i didnt drive it to hard but i did get on it a few times and no problems go watch a movie get in it drive it and then when i got off the freeway it started banging gears. I checked the fluid again and it is still to high. So im going to let it sit over night and let everything settle. Fire it up and drain some tomorrow and then do my rear diff fluid change. The speedo was bouncing still so im hoping the bouncing and over filled will all be resolved tomorrow and all will be right in the world.

That sucks, after hearing the filter was dropped I would've thought for sure that was the problem. Hopefully just a tad overfilled. The E4OD's are finicky. Hopefully bouncing speedo is fixed with a fluid change and not a bad PSOM.

Hopefully it's not the PSOM, but it would be nice to have a factory tach in there. Still can't believe yours didn't come with one.

My last one did. I just finishd draining the rest of the overfilled tranny now to do the rear diff and test drive again. I also think my trans cooler is plugged or the trans pump is weak

I think the number one upgrad people do to these is drill the pump bigger and upgraded clutch packs.

I think i discovered why the speedo is bouncing. There are a couple groups of three teeth that were caked with crap in them but the gaps between them were open. I got them cleaned and looks like some of them are a little corroded so ill hope for the best until i get a new tone ring.

And after cleaning.

Also found out my pinion gear is walking around so a new bearing and seal is in order as well. That will be saved for another day.

Quick update drained the rear diff cleaned some teeth on the tone ring refilled and test drove. I also drained some atf out of the trans. The speedo is still bouncing a little not like it was but that will not go away until I get pinion bearing and seal replaced. The ring carrier is also moving a bit as well. I think I have a restricted trans cooler so that will be on my list to do as well.

Any body ever flushed the trans cooler/radiator part and external cooler.

Sounds like if you replace that bearing the bouncing should go away.

Thats what im hoping replace the bearing and seal, hopefully the bearing hasnt destroyed the housing. Then im going to disconnect the trans lines from the radiator and blow out the trans cooler part of the radiator and trans cooler.

Once you resolve the ring gear moving around issue the speed bounce and banging transmission will most likely go away.

The trans stopped banging so far after I drained some fluid out of it. I did the test on how much fluid comes out when you pull the rear line in 15 seconds and it wasnt even close to being 1/2 a quart. So either my trans cooler is restricting or my pump is bad. So im going to pull the top trans line off of the radiator and see what i come up with.
