55 Panel Build
#46
This is the first time I have ever done this type of work. I know a lot of people are against the use of filler but I did not use any thickness greater than 5/32, the negative to me is it is on the edges so I am going to learn something here.<br/>This is a reproduced hood and it did not fit by far so I have put some extensive work into getting it to look the way it sits today. In the next week the front clip should be ready for high build prime for blocking or I might just epoxy and go to the body

Nicely done, I enjoyed your narration, along with the really nice work on your Panel. You sitting there with the syphon sand blaster sure brought back memories from me cleaning my frame, B4 I gave in and rented an industrial unit. Your metal work is very impressive, way beyond my capabilities but I can enjoy seeing what other people are capable of doing. Beautiful truck, beautiful work, cant wait to watch your progress as you move toward paint. Thank you for sharing.

The only comment that I would have about what I see on your hood/fenders filler work is that the corners are very fragile when shaped with filler. Personally I try not to form an edge with filler, I will build up the edge with weld and/or some metal and then shape the mating edges in the metal and then backfill with the filler. From my own personal experience I have found that filled edges will invariably chip out without the least bit of provocation...especially on hood corners.

Thanx for the positive comments Jim.
John always nice to hear from you, you always have good things to say and very informative.
Charlie I have to believe what you say has a lot of truth because of what I have seen you do and you are one of the best I see here, so I take your comments as a positive and constructive.
I did a 56 ford 20 years ago and had the same thing done and 20 years later this truck is still in good shape with the filler of that era. I also believe that there are not to many places where filler does not meet an edge and that I am running about 60 for filler and 40 for the weld, so it came down to me making the call. Like I said I will learn something here. The fact is we are doing everything here at home so I feel I got knowledge to gain and won't be blaming anyone but myself.
I am currently doing the filler on the rear doors and hopefully get the side doors going to, but saw horses and space are a priceless commodity. Plus the fact that I think I research stuff totally to much which creates indecision.
Terrible with pictures so will try and get some tomorrow.
Thanx again guys
Gerry

I know the unexpected, parked my motorcycle that I just got from the painter right under the garage door. I had the remote in my jacket walked away and accidently hit the close button, so now everytime I look at the rear fender I have that ugly feeling when I heard that door going down.

Kind of what I am thinking and hoping I don't hit it. If I drive this as much as I do my 33 I should be alright.

Got back to work on the panel for awhile, while between work on the kids house and mine. Started installing the altman latches. I am welding them in and am doing the striker plate as Charlie Led does them. They are just about done just have the striker plate on the passenger side to do, then it is the power conduits for the doors, finish fitting the doors and than go back to body work.
