1954 F100- Bedroom Project

Well, I just wanted to post up a quick thread, to show my progress in this current project. i just finished a restoration on my 67' F100...so, was looking for a smaller project to mess with. My 3 year old son, is pretty much my entire World, and he is as die hard of a car guy, as a 3 year old could possibly be. So, i wanted to build him a cool bed to sleep in, out of an old Ford truck bed.

I searched for several months for a decent bed, with no luck. The nice ones in my area were selling for $400+ even without a tailgate. So, I happened to come across an ad, for an entire truck. After another month of haggling back and forth, I bought the entire truck for not much more than i could have bought a bed for. Im going to post a bunch of pics...so, enjoy. I don't normally post pics of my kids on the web...but this entire project was for my son...and he has helped in every step of the way. And yes....I plan on restoring the rest of the truck as well....but that will come much later. And so it begins......

HUGE PICS WARNING!!!!! (Not sure why)

I found the truck about 3 hours west of where I live. Not exactly a show winner...but it served its purpose.

Unloading at the house. I tore down my side fence, to put it in the back yard. I received a letter from my H.O.A. less than 3 days later. I guess I have some concerned neighbors.

This is my 3 year old...running the electric wench on the trailer. He was super excited at this point, as it was a surprise.

Removed the bed from the truck, just to quickly get an idea of what it would look like with some wheels.

This isn't a concourse restoration, so I'm just going to rattle can the bed. Started with some primer...

Decided to go with Red, as it looks the best with his current room decor. Or so says my interior decorater. (Wife)

Starting to take shape, now. Ordered some tailgate hardware online, and mounted it up.

Also cut some boards to size, to support the box frame, and mattress.

Your painter's helper isn't going to sleep for a week when that's done. Great project.

That's a cool project. It's going to be awesome when it's finished.

Although, we need to get your son a Husker hoodie to replace that OU one.
I might tolerate it since we are in different conferences now.

Very nice! Now put it back together with the cab and hood in his room. The cab could make a nice closet, and the engine compartment has giant toy box written all over it.

What a neat idea. Hmm, I wonder what he's going to drive to high school, could it be a 54 F-100?

Great project. I am glad I don't have a HOA where I am at. I am sure they would get there feelings hurt.

Lol I just LOVE it

when the kid has outgrown the bed you are about done with the rest of the truck.

Just carry the bed out to the garage bolt it down and you guys are ready for his first driving lesson.

I wounder what my wife would say if I came up with that same idea

This was my exact thought process, when making this purchase. I figure, I can take my time on the truck resto, so in 3-5 years when he outgrows this bed...it should be ready to bolt onto the rest of the truck....and I'll have a nice driver.
