I am new to this Forum and I have a question about swapping a 97 F150 5.4 auto to a 97 F250 4.6 5spd. I wrecked my F150 and have a chance to buy a 97 F250 4.6 in excellent condition. I tow a portable sawmill, about 2800lbs. I occasionally tow a 10,000 dump trailer and 10,000 equipment trailer. I believe the 4.6 will handle the sawmill OK but I am not sure about the bigger trailers. My question is: Is it feasible to put the 5.4 into the F250 and what problems will I encounter? Thanks for any replies.

 

I Have a stock fi50, 97, 4.6,, great little motor, almost 200.00 miles still runs like a champ.. but don't think I would want to try 10,000, the 5.4 would definitely be better, cant help ya with engine swap though ,,?good luck I'm sure you will , get it figured out, here

 

Very feasible to do, the engines are almost identical. A little confusing, but this is the wrong forum for this type of truck. The 1997 F250 light duty has far more in common with an F150 than a Super Duty, so I'm moving it to the F150 forum.
