Question 2003 ford Explorer Problems

I have a 2003 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 sohc v6 4x4. It is making a whistling sound like when u blow into a shotgun shell after its been fired. Also, it has to be revved up to 3000 rpms before it goes into gear and then once it grabs it slams and jerks and the truck shuts off. What could be some possible things to check?

The whistle might be the alternator. My 03 did for 11 years and 70K. When it wore out,
the whistle stopped. Ref. the tranny: I bought the deluxe Ford warranties that lasted
10 years. Ford paid for the rebuild of the diff, a spring, the steering rack, and finally
the tranny. The alternator replacement came out of my pocket. We are now retired.
I average only 320 miles a month this year so far. Good luck.
We also own an 02 Escape with 42K, a 75 F-150 XLT Ranger and a 66 T-Bird Town Landau.

Any trouble codes that go along with your issues?

Ford denied the problem….&…The a.c. was always slow in producing COLD air in hot
weather. Again, Ford blamed it on the new freon…..that is until a year ago the a.c. stopped
I took it to a local shop. They evacuated x lbs and checked for leaks…
none found…and recharged. It was low from the factory in 03. My great and wonderful
Ford dealer (2 new & 1 used) screwed me over just like the brake job it really did not
need and the 4-wheel alignment on a 98 after replacing lower ball joints.
Remember, customers are not allowed into the shop like the old days.
There! I feel better!

But coming to FTE can help others from the same mess you

Got into.

I think we need codes - if any - from the original poster.
