Aftermarket headlights/housings with OEM HID/projectors

It is my understanding that the 2014 F150s are not compatible with the Spyder projector headlights when the truck is already fitted with the OEM HID/projectors and I don't understand why? This sounds counter-intuitive; why must I have the OEM halogen to get the Spyder HID/Porjector housing?

Theirs look a lot better than the OEM HID projector!
