If traction becomes a real issue you always have this option...

Mattracks | Vehicles » Mattracks » Extra Heavy Duty

My salesman just left a message on my phone regarding the tentative build I had requested a price quote on yesterday. Seems the 4.30 locking rear end is not available on a SRW F350. Have to go DRW.

Moving closer to getting a DRW...

Holy smokes. He's telling me I'd have to get the 3.55 in a SRW! Can't even get a 3.73??? That's no bueno.

He is confused. He is pulling specs for a diesel truck, not gas. Diesel SRW trucks are 3.31 or 3.55 only.

your salesman is wrong, you can get a 4.30 with the e-locker in a SRW. I also believe the only way to get a limited slip is with the dually, SRW only comes with either open or locking diff(at least that was the way it was in '13 when I ordered mine).

Which ever way you go you're more than likely going to need to add airbags since these newer Super Duties have softer suspensions.

If you do go with a SRW just get the truck with a box and take it off afterwards. With all the rust issues the Super Duty trucks have you won't have any problem selling that box for more than what the box delete credit would be.

With the kind of payload you're looking for, you're in dually territory whether it be Ford, Ram or GM. I've driven a dually for the past 4 years, and I'm not convinced it's worse in snow or mud. But my truck is NOT a DD either by any stretch of the imagination. Certainly a 2wd dually will suck in snow or mud, but with the 4wd and an easy foot I have no issues getting around on grass or snowy roads. I've spun out on ice covered roads (in 2wd) with a trailer and had to back down and try it again in the dark, in 4wd. And it went up just fine. Do you need 4wd sooner than an SRW truck, absolutely, but once you get used to it, it's not an issue. I haven't tried to sink this truck in the mud, my last one I did and the rear sat on the ground and spun, while the front tried to dig to china halting forward movement. Can't say a SRW with the heavy diesel in the front wouldn't have done the same thing. If you go dually (D80) you're stuck with the LS from Ford, I know even if there was a good bit of cash layout, under 1k or so, I'd have spec'd my truck with an E locker rather than an LS. There is no reasonably inexpensive aftermarket locker for a D80, once you surpass a D60, stuff gets expensive, FAST!

This is the first quote he gave me on a SRW bed delete. So by the time I add back the spare and the jack, I've saved roughly $300. I'm thinking just get the bed and store it/sell it.

I think you're best doing the same. I'd say add DRW to that build and GO FOR IT!

Questions:

What is the TX/OK edition?

And are you getting 18" steel wheels?

Very exciting man!! X2 on saving the bed. Store it for a few years and it will he worth a lot more then $300 being basically NOS if ya store it right.

I don't know what the TX/OK pkg is. I'll ask my salesman. I'm just getting whatever wheels come standard on an XLT. I think they're 18"?

That seems huge. Don't know to much about these trucks but I would think you would want a 16" steel wheel. Cheaper tires down the road.

18'' wheels are standard on f350 srw. 17'' are standard on f250.. I beleve 2004 was the last year for 16'' wheels as they went to bigger brakes and wasnt room anymore.
