It's closer to "someone up in the clouds."

Don't you remember when it snowed out on the eastern plains one time I headed out there this late in the year?

The big problem is the early-morning fog that develops over the eastern plains, it can stop traffic on I-70.

I do remember the snow. Or, at least I remember hearing about it. But, if we don't wait until that time of year it'll be HOT down here. (Plus, early Sept is vacation time for us.) Sorry.

Well, Chris, that just gives you more time for your well known "side trips" while seeking stations selling non-ethanol enriched gasoline!

Been there, done that. My Miata was fun until the snow fell, and fall it did in PA. 4" of ground clearance and RWD made for an exciting daily drive to/fro work.

Without a small block in it the only time it would be fun is in the snow ...

Not true! First, you have to know something about the roads in the Wilmington, DE area - nothing straight for more that 1/4 mile and plenty of tight turns. I drove the same route daily and had the cornering speeds nailed. I could drift and catch it, easily.

Got into casual contests on many occasions: The Delorean was absolutely no contest as it was slooooow and didn't corner; the M3 didn't corner as well as the Miata, but when you hit a straightaway color him GONE; and the motorcycle rider could disappear but didn't like cornering.

As luck would have it our son moved into the same area after we moved away, and drove the same roads to/fro work. Sometimes in conversations with us he'd mention some casual contest he'd gotten into on those roads and I'd live it all over again.

No prob, whatsoever.

I researched the small-block idea extensively when I had the Miata, but it upset the balance too much. Instead, I wished for the BBR (Brody Britain Racing) turbo setup that was sold from the Mazda dealerships in the UK, complete with warranty. Might have been able to scare those M3's a bit.

What is wrong with bumping the compression up to run E85 or keep it low and add turbo or blower and E85.

Yes? So, where were you with respect to a full or empty tank when you changed wheels and tires? In other words, how long before we might see some results?

Within a few days. The last couple of tanks have been down regarding MPG. I have a theory, but as always, something else might be at play [when not doing laboratory testing]. I had a flat tire approximately 3-4 weeks ago. It was the right front and I had to drive on the flat for farther than I wanted to. The repair held air, but even with the correct air pressure, the truck wanted to pull slightly to the right. Perhaps, the tire carcass was damaged and this would create drag. Another variable is that due to road construction, I am driving an alternate route.

I am still driving the alternate route, but with the new tires, the pull to the right is gone.

Just like some of the more recent records in baseball, regarding homeruns, I will have to place an asterisk by the gas mileage figures until I resume my normal daily route.
