61 falcon ranchero axel bearing change time
I am having rear bearings changed at a local shop and the guy started by taking apart the brakes. I have a factory repair manual for the car and he doesn't care to look at it. He says that is the way he works. I would be interested to find someone who is familiar with the car and can give me some idea of time involved with the repair. I normally do my own work but I just broke a rib and I need the truck fixed. I feel that the guy is going to try to charge for the time that is spent doing work that is unnecessary..
Can anyone help me figure this out??

The shop time will vary, depending on whether the shop presses the bearings off and on, or whether they have an outside machine shop do that work.
With no problems or issues, shop time should run 1-2 hours. If the shop does their own press work I could see 2-3 hours for the job total job.
Some machine shops will charge by the job and some by the clock. I could see something in the 1-1.5 hour range for the press work. Remember there are four specific tasks, and set ups, that need to be done.
If the repair shop or machine shop has to send a driver to pick up and deliver the axles be sure to ad some time for that.
Hope this helps.
