Not a place I have spent a lot of time in. A visit to NYC and long island and it was only an overnight.

I probably wouldn't bring an expensive camera either. Too risky.

The coolpix is alot cheaper then what I had paid for my DSLR. And no need to worry about lenses being taken either. We used to live in Coast Guard family housing in Westhampton Beach and then we lived on Governors Island when my dad was in the Coast Guard.

And it's more fun to experience it personally instead of through a camera lens.

That it is Tim. The coolpix I can slide into a pocket on the backpack I will be taking or into a pants pocket. I would rather enjoy being back in my old stomping grounds.

This is the one I bought Tim.
Nikon COOLPIX S9700 Wi-FI Digital Camera | Compact Wi-Fi Digital Camera from Nikon

And this is the DSLR I have.
Nikon | Imaging Products | Nikon D60

Much easier to take the point and shoot instead of the big heavy camera that screams tourist.

The D60 has been a great camera for me so far. But sometimes I would want a lighter smaller camera to take to some places. So I bought the coolpix to complement it. I am pondering replacing my D60 in the next year or two since it is no longer made and doesnt have the megapixels that the newer cameras have.

The high megapixels is great but I think it's getting crazy. Soon memory cards will only get 50 pics in before maxing out and the pics become to large to email to people.

That they will Tim. I figure I can upgrade to one that is a bit better then what the D60 is since that is around 5 or 6 years old at this point.

They keep their value for sure. I see them at pawn shops for close to new prices . Especially if you have a nice selection of lenses.

That they do Tim. I have a few lenses already. Planning on getting a few more to have for different types of photography. I also have a Nikon FM 35mm SLR that takes the same lenses as my DSLR. I have stopped using the 35mm anymore because film is getting harder to find and also harder to find places to develop it.

Varies on the type of lens, manufacturer, type if camera and where you buy the lens from. Sometimes you can find a good lens in the pawn shop for a few bucks. Other times I have to order the lens from a camera store ( sadly they are disappearing). For my cameras lenses typically run between 250 and at least 3 grand per lens. But it is worth it.
