I have one at my front gate, side gate, Path to the house, 4 corners of the house, and one facing the garage. If the DVR would do more than 8 cameras, I'd load it up!

what is the name of that place Charlie, i may be upgrading the DVR for a larger HD and easier programing so i can access the HD to download the stored info to a DVD.
i have 2 cameras on the front of the house crossing beams facing in opposite directions.
i can see the full street from corner to corner.
then a camera on top of the garage that does the driveway, side of the house, and both the neighbor across the street, along side of me, and my front doors.
the left side camera covers the left of the house, the left neighbors side yard, and the house across the street from her.

Here is the google link for the company, I built a good system from them a piece at a time.
Keep in mind, you will need a 12 volt power inverter box for your cameras and equipment unless you like a lot of transformers plugged into power strips
