1995 F150 XLT 5.8L and oil cooler question

Hi. I have a 1995 F150 XLT with the 5.8L and it has the factory oil cooler that mounts under the oil filter and has two small hoses hooking it to the lower radiator hose. Question: does the coolant flow just through the housing or does it also flow between the housing and the engine block?
I need to replace the radiator hoses due to age and I'd like to NOT utilize the oil cooler.

I'm trying to figure out if I can replace the current 2 pc lower rad hose with the 1 pc non-oil cooler lower rad hose and leave the oil cooler attached to the block without causing any leaks?

Thanks
Max

Yes You can do as you are stating. Use a lower hose for a 5.0 which doesn't have a cooler. You can also use the longer filter, FL-1A if you remove the cooler itself. That being said, the oil cooler does extend the life of the oil, which is a good thing by keeping it a little cooler.

Thanks for the response SteelHorse.
Question, you mention using a 5.0 lower hose, does it fit better than the non-cooler 5.8 lower?
So theres no coolant flowing between the cooler and the block right?

Only fluid that passes between cooler and the block is oil, unless the cooler fails, but it usually oil going to the water because its higher pressure. I said 5.0 lower hose because some places don't have a listing for a lower 5.8 hose without the cooler for that year.
