Hi all. Been hanging here a few days fueling my interest early 70's highboys. Had two of these when I was much younger(1969 and 1971). Well I have the bug again and I'm looking at a local rig and I'm wondering what the value is on this truck.1970 f250 highboy all stock, 360, 4sp, 81000 miles and does not run(missing intake. The guy is asking $900. I'm thinking $700-750. What do you all think. I'm not in a hurry to get it finished. I would appreciate what you all think. Thanks!

With the lack of cleanliness on the semi-disassembled engine and being that it does not run you have no idea what the condition of the rest of the drivetrain is in, I wouldn't pay a dime more than $500.

check for rust with a screw driver in all the key areas especially cab mounts, kick panels, floors, and drip rails.

Owner says it's been sitting since '02(last tag). Got it hot and blew head gasket. Been sitting for 12 yrs. Looks not to bad on the underneath side.

 

I imagine engine will have to be bored or sleeved to clean the rust up. On rust on top and hood it's hard to tell how bad it is from your pictures but may just be surface rust with minimal pitting. If that is the case you should be able to clean it up without a lot of fuss.

I think 500 is a good price, here on the east cost that rig would be closer to 1000 in its present condition.

 

If on West coast, $500 max. East coast would go for $750-1000. With a possibly unusable engine I would not pay more than $750 no matter the location. Over heated could possibly have sat with water/coolant in the cylinders all this time. Would be pitted beyond feasible repair cost of a complete replacement.

 

Well the guy would not move on the price so I'll keep looking. I want to thank you all for all the help. The search is on.

 

If it was me I'd give him the money and haul it home. I know someone that gave $2000.00 for one with no floor boards, a tree laying across the box with no motor, transmission and transfer case. For $900.00 that is a lot of truck to work with.

 

I agree that 900 is a good price. It really depends on what you want out of it. That is a solid truck that needs an engine. That bed alone would catch at least 500 if not 750 around here on the east coast.

 

I doubt I would even give $500. You could buy a far better truck in Portland, Boise, or Seattle and drive it home for $900.
