01' Excursion Sub Box
Hey all, new to the board...love it! I have just picked up a 2001 Excursion Limited. I'm looking for a spot to put a sub(s). I have upgraded all door speakers and installed new main radio. I have seen on other sites the spare tire sub box and also the barn door method. I cannot find anyone or anywhere to get the spare tire box (I like this one best). I did see the jl audio stealth box for front console but I would like to put the subs in back. Does anyone have any suggestions or input? Mainly looking to see where I can get a spare tire box or how to do the barn door method. Thanks a bunch!!

I know its getto but I put 2 10's in the barn doors without building a box. I stuffed a bunch of leftover insulation around the speakers and wired them up. It's unbelievable what they sound like. It won't win any contest but they sound dang good for the time I spent on them. Also, the speakers don't take up any cargo space. That's what I like about this spot!

I made my own sub box in the spare tire. Turned the tire the other way so it has the depth facing out, and built a custom box from fiberglass.
Easy to get the required dimension, was not huge time consumer, was fairly cheap and does what I want it to do, and best part it is still stealth.
speckled paint matches up pretty good for a clean finish if I wanted to keep the tire cover off.
just about a 2.5" rise from the tire. Should still clear the cover.
checking for fitment and to figure out how high I need to raise the outer shell
