Cummins is a more known engine the the powerstroke. The 5.9 also has more horse power and torque then the 7.3 and the 6.0 and also doesn't blow like the 6.0 did..if you have ever driven a cummins you can tell it's better made then the powerstroke.. I have a 5.9 in my truck and I love it

ahhhhh. no. the 5.9 started out at 165 hp, the naturally aspirated 7.3 was 185 hp..
the 5.9 never had more power than any ford offered 7.3 or 6.0 in stock form.

Well according to international powerstroke.com the best hp the 7.3 had was 275 hp. According to M.cummins.com the best hp the 5.9 had was 325 hp.. That's 50 hp difference you can't argue that

i am not talking about powerstroke.
i am talking about the introduction of the 5.9 in 1989, and the 1989 7.3.

1989 5,9 had 165 hp with a turbo. 1989 7,3 naturally aspirated was 185 HP
the first generation 7.3 walked circles around the first generation 5.9 loaded or empty.

We aren't talking about the fist gen motors we are talking about why ford put the 5.9 in the 650 and 750 and not the 7.3 or 6.0 ..

But you are right the first gen 7.3 had more hp then the 5.9 first gen

not in my experience. a 5.9 powered F650 or F750 is a death trap that should not be allowed on the road. they do not have enough power to pull out into traffic empty, let alone with a 10 ton load on the back of the truck.
a 7.3 powerstroke or DT444E in an international, a 6.0/DT365, or a C7 tact is hands down the better choice

You can't argue that because they don't put one is and the 5.9 had more house power and torque in that year then the 7.3 and would have broke with a 6.0 like it did in the ambulance they put them in when they came out.. So if it is bad it would have been a lot worse to put a powerstroke inside.. He wants to know why they put the cummins in those are 2 big reasons why they would have ..

i had the misfortune of having to run htose underpowered slugs for close to 20 years. i have plenty of experience with them, and can tell you without a doubt a 7.3, 6.0, or C7 cat is way better than a 5.9.
i had brand new 5.9 powered trucks that could not pull out into traffic where 7.3 powered trucks just scooted away.
the only 5.9 powered truck i ever drove that was worth anything had a 13 speed in it. it was slower than a snail climbing a salt hill in the winter, but at least it would pull a load.

You can't argue that because you never drove a 7.3 in a 650 or higher because they don't make them.. Only in the small trucks do they put those in and I'll put my 5.9 stock to the 7.3 or 6.0 eny time because I know it's better

Dominic, check your facts. Ford installed the 7.3L engine in both the F-650 and the F-750.

Your wrong according to Wikipedia there has never been a powerstroke in a f650 until 2015 there was a Cat motor in some but never a powerstroke.. You must have seen or heard of a engine swap
