F600 2 speed problem

I have a 1979 F600 flatbed I use to haul logs to my mill. While under a load the 2 speed rear end shifter got really hot. It will run just fine on the low side but will not shift into high. The switch only heats up in high. With the truck shut off I can hear a click under the dash when I move the switch. When I try to switch the rear end with the truck shut off I hear a "clicking" sound from the motor on the rear end. Can anyone tell me if they have had the same problem and what was the remedy? I am a little out of my depth here and I don't have a lot of time to mess with it. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.
Mike
