In 1958 I was in the ARMY and headed for Ft Bliss TX.
Riding in my pretty new 56 Ford sedan.

I'd gone South down the coast from Seattle and eastward over Tehachapi pass.
I was struggling up near the top and passed a big truck. My 292 was pouring black smoke as I passed the Truck right at the end of the Truck lane.

I must have made him slow down, because not long after I cleared the top of the pass, and was boiling down the East side I heard a loud horn behind me and all I could see was a big Bumper with a license plate on it in my Rear view.

My car might h ave been able to go that fast, but I was sorely afraid to go off the road way up there.
I raced for a wide spot, got off just as he roared by.
I learned a lesson that day. Almost the hard way.
I hope you guys have a better time at Tehachapi that I did that day.

Yep, having 4 lanes now up over the pass helps to avoid full sized license plates in your rear view mirror. Not to mention that horn that goes along with it.
