Seat Belts, Types, Locations, Measurements Etc.

Can we get a thread going with guys posting the types of seat belts used, location of mounts, and some pictures.

Just curious what others have used, what fits well. What used retractors work, etc.

3rd row seat belts out of a Ford minivan. Single inertia ratchet retractor and belts are plenty long.

home made brackets. Lighter weight than most of us would make but definitely no heavier than what the minivan had, and those were spot welded in. A few more pics in my album.

I am considering three-point belts in my '53 F-100. I want to keep the original bench seat. Should I be thinking about some way to lock or otherwise latch the seatback so it doesn't tilt forward? I figure that this discussion is a good place to insert this question.

That's a nice installation there. I only have lap belts in my 50 F1, and have been thinking about what's needed for upgrading.
Let's see more.

das54, what year range explorer? If you were to move the retractor down closer to the crossmember would you still have enough length?

One more question, what size nut did it require for you to weld in? Is a standard size bolt used across several vehicles? The star pattern looks similar in size to what I have seen in both of my 150's and ranger.

JVMCC, everyones opinion will differ on that. Mine personally is the seat belts should hold you and the seat back.

Then again maybe there is a reason all the major auto makers started making there's lock as the years progressed?

Or you can use seats with seat belts built in.

NOT SURE WHAT THESE ARE OUT OF.

I got the mounting brackets for the 48 from Classic Haulers and the shoulder belts from Mid Fifty. They seem to work OK but they could be a bit longer, really got to take a deep breath to get them buckled, or I guess that I could loose a few pounds.

Here's how mine are attached. My buddy welded the plates in for me. I got the belts and mounting plates from Classic Haulers/Mid Fifty.

For the guys welding the plates in between the rear glass and door, do those not get in the way of your headliner?

The Classic Hauler brackets do not get in the way, they fit behind the headliner.

The plates are curved to match the cab, so the only mod to the headliner "should" be making the hole for the bolts. I say "should" be because I don't have a headliner yet.

I assumed that the rubber strip that holds it up in the roof continued down the backs of the door pillars. Does it not?

I see now you have a '56, which is different from the 48-52 cabs. As far as I know, there is no rubber strip in the earlier cab headliners. But, like I said, I don't have one yet.
