I don't know that I would particularly like rowing a 10-speed manual...

Can't be that much harder to do than a Road Ranger or Eaton-Fuller 10 speed manny, just this would have to synchronized...double clutching is not in my left foot's original set up. Would be freaking slow though unless gear skipping is allowed with it unless under a heavy load or the gearing is in such a fashion that the highest is around 6 or 7:1 and it slowly goes down to a double OD.

Smile In honor of Manual Shifting Love

I love using a manual clutch in my '95 F-150 4x4. SO, to commemorate this loss in modern cars and trucks I will buy a new shift **** for both of my vehicles that have a manual tranny. So sad but, the science is better today than it was back then. I'll keep them as long as I can because they're so much fun!

First of all, please let me say, that is one sharp lookin' truck you got! Second I have a confession to make, and that is that I just bought a 2012 F-150 4x4 with the automatic. I will soon be selling my beloved 2006 5-speed truck. I will miss my 5-speed, and hopefully in a few years I can get another as a project truck. The 2006 was starting to get worn out, and my wife wanted me to get something that she could drive (read: automatic). Also my knees are gettin' old and sitting in traffic everyday with that clutch pedal just wasn't as much fun as it was 10 years ago! Lol
Here's a picture of the old and new trucks together:

Amazing how much larger the new models are compared to the older ones. Those are nice looking trucks both of them

Okay so it's not just me! I was thinking the same thing when I bought the red beast last weekend, that it feels a lot wider than my blue 2006. I drive the old blue one now, and it starts to feel like a Ranger! LOL
Thanks for the compliments on both of my trucks! Whoever had the red one before me took really good care of it; and as far as the blue truck, my wife jokes that I'm border-line OCD about that one . It's got a few battle scars that aren't visible in this photo, but it's also seen 10 years of hard work, too. I don't buy 'em to let them sit and look pretty. I buy a truck to work it!

You're the second person to tell me that...
I'll think of a new one and figure out how to change it. It'll have to be something more generic; that way I don't have to change it every time I get a new truck.

So confused, what ever one is fussing about. Auto or stick in my, either for a couple months will most likely make most want a newer vehicle period. '78 F 150 supercab long bed all spring suspension, lifted 3" and 33" tires. Running a '69 Lincoln block, D0VE heads. Hole in pass side floor. Straight thru 2 7/8" fender exit exhaust to magnum super 44 exiting right in front of rear tires. Most would go running to a newer truck on a heartbeat. No auto locking hubs, wired winch, manual windows, full bench seat. 3.50 gears and still screams 3200 RPM at 60 MPH. The thing is it never stops running. Oh and it's auto. The one thing I would love is just a newer auto with at least 4sp and a overdrive.

If you really like the blue one, why not just keep it?

Has anyone figured what the power loss difference there is between a manual and an automatic or how much more power loss there'll be when you have more gears?

power loss? New automatics will "lock" the torque converter after you reach a few MPH. There is no loss after that.
