A little something I've been working on
Since this winter has been a long one, I "mocked up" my engine in the living room. I found that my valve covers didn't quite clear my roller rockers. Since I like my valve covers and aftermarket EFI valve covers are kind of stupid expensive. So I made some 3/8 steel spacers. The spacers are bolted to the bottom using machine screws and siliconed together. I have one cover finished and the other is ready for polishing/filling.
Not to bad for starting out with 48" of 3/8 x 6" flat plate.

I've had a bunch of other stuff laser cut and thought about that again but the problem is it really isn't a simple thing to draw in CAD. There is no standard shape to it.
I made a paper template from the bottom which I then transferred to the flat stock. It was then rough cut with a torch and then bolted to the bottom. Drilled and tapped for 3/16 machine screws. Outer edges were ground down with an angle grinder and inner edges with die grinder. Outer edges filled with JB weld and sanded. Spot putty for final finish and sanded/polished with scotchbrite. I also had the bottom planed for perfect gasket seal.
I probably spent way to much time on these but I like a "stock" look. I want the finished engine to look like I just yanked it out of a modern vehicle and dropped it in the truck but is clearly hot rodded underneath.
