New trailer ordered
Since Charlie posted his nice trailer, I went for a walk and looked at my old beast and decided its time for a new trailer. Here is what I ordered today

I m thinking I need a smaller trailer! Big trailers are nice but when you need someone to help move it because your truck is broke it is hard to find a friend with a big enough truck to pull it.
Kevin that is a very nice trailer. Are the axles raided at 7.000 each? Or are they 3500ib axles?
I d go with the Heaviest axles you could.

Always glad to help...that looks like a really nice setup! I debated going with a ducktail design but thought I'd keep it simple, I could always modify it later if I changed my mind. I would be interested to know how much that trailer weighs unladened. I haven't weighed mine yet but I did add up all the components weights (as best I could) and it came to 1489 lbs.

That is a really nice trailer, I would love to have one like it if I had a place to park it. It is looking more and more like it is time for a move, been in this house since 1979 and the neighborhood is changing fast. Getting to be way to snooty for me with million dollar houses all around and big fancy 5 story apartments being built that 2 bdrm units rent for 3K per month and they fill as fast as they build them. Traffic in our neighborhood has gotten crazy! Most of the people around here don't have a clue what my truck is. The guy next door mentioned that it looked really old and asked me if it was from the '70's.

Kevin, There is another reason to only go with the 3500# axles. If you put a light vehicle on a stiff trailer it can shake it to death. I had a friend that that happened to going to Hershey. It was an enclosed trailer. The car in the trailer was damaged when he got to Hershey. He had a friend drive the rig while he was in the car in the trailer. It about shook his teeth out and scared the XXXX out of him.

The guy got into the car, inside an enclosed trailer and rode there from New England to Hersey? Did I really read that correctly?
So I have to ask, was he in the car, inside the trailer because it was not tied down? And if so, did he really think that he could keep the car from bouncing around inside the trailer, from inside the car?
If I got this all correct Bill, I think your friend had more than his teeth shook out BEFORE he went on this trip.

OK, after reading this post 5 times, I am still wondering if I read this correct.

No, he brought a 1908 Stanley Steamer to Hershey from New England in his new enclosed trailer . When they opened the trailer at Hershey, the car was damaged, the coffin nose hood had torn the hood hinge away from the firewall. He asked his father in law to drive 2 miles down the road while my friend rode in the car in the trailer for about 2 miles. You know the rest of the story. He changed the axles on his new trailer to 3500# axles. He thought bigger was better when he originally ordered the trailer with optional higher rated axles.

I've been thinking about ordering a new trailer from Carson, but it'll probably cost me less to refurbish my existing trailer by having it blasted first. I can then either POR15 in or apply another similar coating, change out the wood, rewire it and maybe replace the 10k lbs winch with a 12k lbs winch with a wireless remote (although nothing is wrong with the current 10k lbs winch besides it not being wireless).
