I need help on wiring, would it be easier to transfer the entire sd harness, pcm and idm over to the 96 or just re pin the 42 pin connector from my obs harness to match the harness coming from the engine?*im not even sure if only re pinning the 42 connector will do much. Can anyone give me an answer as to what would be required to keep my 96 harness and pcm?

Just use the 96 harness on the new engine.
Should all just plug in. You'll have to smear the obs uvch to the sd engine but everything else should plug in

Whoch is the uvch? Is the the 42 pin connector? If so I've looked over schematics and the pinout are different.

really? Even for the turbo and everything? Hmm interesting, what do you mean by smear the uvch? Thats the harness that plugs into the valve covers correct?

It's the harness that goes to the valve covers. And I think he means wire. Not a difficult task. I don't know what you mean by turbo though.

The sd turbo has a pigtail going to it.

The wastegate isn't electronic, that wiring harness is for the EBPV and the OBS 7.3 has one as well.

Aside from that, all the wiring should swap right over, but you will have to transfer over the wiring for the injectors and glow plugs as well (the UVCWH) as they're different between the SD and OBS engines. Swapping all that over makes it unnecessary to do anything with re-pinning the wiring or PCM.

Do that, swap the accessory brackets over, get your chip (or just swap your OBS injectors into it) and it should drop in. You may have to get creative with your exhaust plumbing but it will all work.

So your saying do all of this if I don't have the sd engine harness? I have the sd engine harness still connected to the engine, all I did was disconnect at the 42 pin and glow plug relay on the body then pulled the engine. By what your saying I can just drop in the engine and plug the e lectricals back in and it should be fine? Using this scenario what do I have to modify, because I dont see why I should change wires dealing with the engine if it is all there? By looking at the 42 pin connector I need to extend the engine side or the body side in order for the two to meet. Or are you saying it would be easier to use my obs engine harness on the sd engine and just modify the injector wires and uvch?

We're saying use the obs harness. It's pretty easy to swap. Especially if both motors are sitting next to each other.

^^^^^ This. Simplest way to see this is that the _engine_ itself is a _mechanical_ assembly, with some electronic sensors _attached_ to it. The _truck_ has the electronics. Swap the mechanical assembly (the minimal engine) and use as much of the host truck's existing electronics as possible. There's little gained by trying to use the electronics/wiring from the SD, however tempting it might be.

That will at least get you a running truck, and then you can fiddle with what other SD donor parts will be possible, and worthwhile, to swap in.

Oh okay, so with the injector and uvch connectors should I just clip them then splice the sd harness connectors on? I know there are two injector connectors on the sd that have six wires to them, whereas the obs has four connectors with four wires each. What do I do with the other two sd wires?
