I bought Patriot headers that were supposed to fit but they didn't. They sent me 2 different sets just in case the jig was off or something. Neither set fit, they would hit the transmission cross member and could only get the front bolt in on both sides. These headers I have now are from Redd's headers and they fit fine with about a half inch of clearance between them and the trans cross member. The only thing I did not like is you can't order them ceramic coated, so I found a powder coating shop here that has a high temp ceracote that they said was good up to 1200 degrees I think. Said it had held up well on other headers they have sprayed it on. As far as the exhaust I am going to run either 2 1/2 inch or 3 inch duals that exit out the back and use dynomax mufflers.

While I am at it can anyone tell me how the grill bolts to the upper valance? I know there are 8 bolts but are there nuts on the backside or does threaded clips go on the valance and bolts screw into them? The valance has a lip on it that looks prohibitive to using clips. If it uses nuts I seem to have lost my nuts.

Second....did I read that right? That you put a 50 year old wiring harness back into this frame-off restoration? I hope not.
The wires don't look that old, but if they are, that's just asking for trouble.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not running down your work in any way, that's one of the prettiest 64's I've seen in a long time and the sound of a healthy long-stroke y-block is just music.

Thanks. As far as the harness goes I did use the original. I went over it with a fine tooth comb. I have owned this truck since 78. I got it from the original purchaser who was more **** about vehicles than I am. This harness has never had anything spliced into it anywhere. The lighting for the extra 2 gauges were installed by using the 3 pin plug in the harness from the factory if the truck had been say a F750 with a tach and air gauge in the dash where the 2 gauges are now. The spotlight was wired to a circuit breaker on the left kick panel under the dash. That circuit breaker got its power directly off of a post on the ignition switch. The wiring harness that went to the taillights was removed after purchase and was installed in a split rubber hose to keep it from being beat to hell from rocks, and then reinstalled this truck saw probably more gravel roads in its life than paved roads. I am very sure that had you seen the condition of all the wiring personally you would not have thought twice about reusing it. I did replace one harness though. That is the one from the wiring that comes out of the steering column and goes to the main harness under the dash. Also had to replace the turn signal switch and to be honest I am more worried about those wires as light as they are than I am the originals.
Until today I was having problems with the fuel gauge going to empty and staying there when I accelerated hard. First thought was harness or gauge and I checked everything and decide it was the sending unit. Got the new sending unit today and went for a drive and no issues.

Sounds good.
I don't know when Ford quit using the cloth covered wires, but I don't think they were still using them in 64.
(I wouldn't re-use original cloth wires, regardless of how they looked.)
Yours look like they're rubber coated and from what you're describing, this harness hasn't been jacked around with. That's unusual.
The harness in my 66 is pristine like this as well, except for back by the rear bumper where someone butchered it trying to install a trailer plug.
