Has anyone pulled a travel trailer with the 2003 expedition with the 4.6L V-8. If so how well did it tow.

 

Ford's towing guide shows max. gcwr 11,500 and max. trailer 6050 for 4x2 and 5750 for 4x4. Frontal area limitation of 60 sq ft.
A trailer within those weight limitations and not too long should tow reasonably well.

 

I have a '98 with the 4.6 and pull my camper. It does just fine. It's no Powerstroke but it does better than anything out of Japan (trust me on that one). Ford put some good springs in the Expy's so there is hardly any sag in the rear.

 

Towing on level ground, you should be fine, but i have a VERY hard time believing my 4.6 Expy will even BEGIN to tow the limits ford has set for it without doing tranny damage. Where I live its up one hill and down the other, and with the limited towing I have done with it, it is pretty dismal. My old Cherokee with the 4.0 would most definitley run circles around it, and while camping this weekend, I saw alot of mini vans pulling trailers with less effort.
