After cleaning up the inner fenders and valve covers my eyes keep going back to the dirty firewall. The master cylinder looked like it puked rust down the front of the cab.
When I first got the pickup I changed out the master with a re-built unit from the autoparts store.
I hoped it would stop the brake fluid from leaking. It did stop it from leaking around the base but the new master leaked out the cap. It also flashed rusted after about a week. Fast forward to now... I figured before I cleaned the firewall I needed a new master. And so began project brakes.
Autoparts Rebuild Master
re-manned master
firewall carnage

All good, it's every Saturday. I went there with my oldest daughter and we scoped out engine bays comparing and scanning for ideas. Nice weekend, good turnout.
Thanks! I thought it turned out pretty decent all things considering. I had my thread in the TX chapter but things got a little slow over there. I thought I could get some more feedback in the kingdom. If your gonna read back, let me warn you I'm no mechanic. I've learned a little bit about this pickup since I started thanks to FTE and still have a lot more to learn.

Ordered a new booster and master combo from Nelco restoration. I ordered them powder coated this time to slow down the rust. brackets fit good but the adjustable pushrod didn't fit.
While I was waiting on the new rod to be send I figured I'd replace all the rubber brake hoses. Everything was going smooth until I stripped out the fitting on the front brake line.

Call up Inline tubes, said I need a pre-bent front right brake line. Inline tube says you gotta buy the whole front set. 1 week later, new brake lines delivered. I also had them make me a new pump to carb
I highly recommend inline tubes. The lines they sent me were a perfect fit and the customer service was on point.

After putting in the booster and master I felt like it went OK. The master cylinder wasn't leaking all over my newly painted firewall or out of the cap but the pedal was WAAAAY soft and low. Plus I felt like I could build a little bit of pressure by pumping the brake.
