Putting a 400 in a 1960 f100

Got this ford f100 a while back been driving the **** out of it for a while with the 3 speed and 223 inline 6. It's been fun but it's time to upgrade the truck. I plan on putting a 400 and a c6 I have that used to be in a 1979 Lincoln continental. I did one with a buddy of mine in his bronco and that thing can blow the doors off of anything. My question is has anyone put a 400 and a c6 in a 1960 ford f100? What motor mounts did you use and what trans mounts. Where did you place the mounts on the frame how far back is the motor. Any problems you had when doing this swap? This will be the first time I have ever done a complete motor swap. I have pulled motors and put motor back in place but never a complete motor swap. Any info would be helpful

Thanks
Alex

I am planning the exact same motor/trans combo for my f250. I believe a company called Classic Performance sells a universal motor mount crossmember. I've also seen motor mounts just bolted to the frame on each side. I'm leaning toward the latter, since I will have to mod the existing rear engine mount crossmember to accomodate the rear-sump pan & c6. Glad to hear some good reviews of this motor-most here seem to think it's a turd. I think it's a great truck motor-comparable in weight to a small block, with big block torque. Please keep us posted on your conversion!!

Just got my motor mounts in the mail last night. I ordered the speedway mounts

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Ford-351M-400-Motor-Mounts,3275.html

And since I don't have a welder I ordered the bolt in ends

http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Bolt-In-Crossmember-Ends,8937.html

I am very pleased with them. They are nicely powder coated, welds are clean and better than anything I could have ever constructed and for $70 with free shipping got them in a day was real nice. And after measuring it looks like it will be a perfect fit.

Can anyone tell me how to wire in the alternator? Looks like it only has 2 studs, one with a plastic red ring at the bottom, and just another stud. Then I have no clue what to do with the distributer. It has this big plastic plug on it. A purple, orange, and green wire. If anyone could let me know.

Thanks Alex

That plug goes to an ignition box, which then has wiring that goes to the main harness and a wire to the coil. Do a google search for a wiring diagram for the year truck the engine is from.

Thats a good motor. It's a '335' series like the 351 Cleveland and 351m. You should be able to drive the hell out of it.

For the distributor/coil issue, you can also get away from the specialized system and go with a more 'normal' coil and cap setup if you want.

It has a regular coil, the 3 wires coming from the distributer are for the points. How do you post pictures?

sorry... I misunderstood.

For pics... I use this site: imgur.com

You can a picture and they give you a URL for your picture which you can add to your posts via the image button (looks like a mountain).

When i bought the motor, that was a journey all on it own

This is after i removed all the A/C, power steering stuff from the motor.

Not the best picture but this is the coil

Then this is the alternator just 2 studs

Then is this more emissions junk?

Also what this blue thing. can i remove it and just put a plug there?

Oh and just some goodies

And let me not forget the plug from the distributor.

and it a three wire purple, orange and green.

Hope this helps the with previous questions i have asked.

Thanks Alex

I think your alternator is one wire to ground and one wire directly to positive battery post...that's how mine is hooked up.

Alright so like i said i removed all the A/C stuff and heater tubes and everything else i wanted to remove. So now my question is what should i do with these two opening? Also what is the piece threaded into the water pump with the blue plastic in it. Should i remove that and put a plug in or can i just leave it? I would like to know what it is. Thanks

Removed a few more things also got some nice plugs to put in place instead of bolts looks clean. Ordered a EGR block off plate for this stuff

From what i read its just more EGR stuff and you can remove the EGR riser and replace it with a non EGR one but i couldn't find that so i just ordered a block off plate. Is there anything else i should do before i tear the motor out of my truck and go to put the 400 in?

Thanks Alex
