Who needs a car ?
I rode a bike for years when I was stationed at Miramar! For shopping I had a trailer made by Burley (of Oregon) that was easily the size of a large shopping cart inside, and folded up when it wasn't in use.
Most of the time I noticed that I made better time than the hooting, honking mobs at the traffic signals. When it rained I wore a slicker. At night I had a light. In the summer - I had a killer tan!!!
Not to mention legs like freight train pistons...
And the whole time I had a '73 Grand Torino parked in the driveway with a modified Cleveland and a four on the floor.
Life was sweet!

For awhile now, I've been thinking about buying one of those Dahon foldable bikes. I figure I could ride down to the nearest trolley stop (about two miles), hop a ride to a point closest to my work, and ride the last couple of miles in. Doing this, I get some much needed exercise, skip the morning fight for parking, and save a bit on gas. The only setback is monetary. The bike will cost me about $1000 and the monthly trolley pass will be about $50. Then there's the loss of personal time. What would normally be a 20 minute commute will turn into a one to two hour affair. I dunno. I'll probably do it for awhile; the summer, at least.
