Flathead to chevy tranny adaptor?

I found a flywheel and what appears to be an adaptor. I got this stuff like 2 years ago when I bought a Flathead off a guy. I remember him saying, he thinks it was for a Flathead to Chevy tranny adaptor. Was there such a thing? I can post pics if anyone wants to see it.

Flathead to chevy tranny adaptor?

Yes joners, there was such a thing as a flathead for to chevy tranny. Its probably for a 700r4 because of the overdrive feature but it also could be for the turbo-350/400 tranny's. Is the adapter flat or is it a bell housing? Yeah post some pics when carl gets back he'll look at the size of the bolt holes and tell us what tranny and what year. -4speed

Okay. I'll get some pics later. This adaptor is like 3" thick....

Flywheel needs to be machined for sure. But this adaptor looks pretty nice for how old it is....only minor surface rust.

Okay here's some pics. Flywheel has a different bolt pattern? Maybe fits others as well?

Oh man, I JUST saw an ad in Street Rodder or one of those truck mag's that have exactly that: flathead to Chev conversion. Check around in mag's & internet. If my "light goes on" and I remember or I come across it again, I'll forward the info to you.

Been buggin' me for 2 days now.... Just can't remember. AHHHH!!

That's an adapter alright, but not for what you think it is. Until '49 or so (Carl will give you the exact date, time, and engine serial number), the flatheads used an integral bellhousing that was cast into the block and oil pan. Past that, they went to a more modern bellhousing arrangement but the trucks still used the same transmission as they did with the old engine blocks. What you have there is the adapter "bellhousing" that mated the newer engine to the existing transmission design that they already had on hand. That looks like a typical truck flywheel off of a flathead, too. I've got a couple of each out in the shed.

So it's a flathead adaptor for a newer style flathead to an older style tranny?

I'd like to sell it, what should I list it as?

It's a production Ford piece. Call it a bellhousing for a '50-'53 Ford truck.

How come the Flathead that was out of my 54 had a larger bellhousing?

I believe you have yourself a truck bellhousing off a 8RT
Check my gallery for some pics of mine.
You need the truck bellhousing fro many of the adaptor kits
