2015 high capacity trailer tow package

Anyone notice this on the order guide?

TRAILER TOW PACKAGE – HIGH CAPACITY (535)
Availability
• Optional on F-350 DRW 4x4 Crew Cab Not available with:
• Pickup Box Delete (66D)
Requires:
• 4.30 Limited-slip rear-axle (X4L)
• 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel engine (99T)

• Front Fender Flare Moldings
• Increase GCW on diesel engine from 31,900 lbs. to 35,000 lbs.

Looks like this package will give you the "current" F450 from what I can see.

sounds like they are mirroring the 08-10 F350 DRW options as well.

Yes, although it looks like that package will have a higher GCWR than the current F450!
Also looks like the standard F350 GCWR will go up.

I have a 3.55. Is the higher the ratio the better? Like this 4.30 is better/preferred?

Higher number means easier towing but worse gas milage (typically).

One isn't better than the other, depends on what you use it for.

Thanks. Towing a fifth wheel, which is quite sweet with this truck.

Think of it like riding a bicycle. The higher numerically the gear the lower it is. So, 4:30's are like putting you bike in a low gear. Very easy to pedal, but your pedaling very fast and going slow. So, on a truck, the engine doesn't have to work as hard to get the load moving, but spins faster using more fuel.

I personally like the 3.73 gear set as an all around compromise. Not too high and not too low.

Me too. I would have ordered them if available in my configuration.

It looks like with this package you can get an F350 that is rated higher than the standard F450. It is a nice step up, but still falls short of the lofty claims of the Ram.

Ram does say it can tow more but you will be hard pressed to find a ram that tows 30,000 better then a superduty.

All reviews I've read say "yes it tows 30,000 but it just tows it ok"

Can't wait to see how the F-450 pickup will be rated. You can be sure it will have a higher GCWR than the Ram.
I've had two F-450 pickups with the 4.30 axle ratio. My '08 got bad fuel mileage but my '12 does pretty decent. Usually averages 16 mpg unloaded.
