2006 F-250 5.4l

I am looking at a '06 5.4l with the automatic in it, it has 120k miles and is flawless, its an Extended Cab Short Box. I am downsizing to this from the 6.8l V10 I have owned for a little over two years now because to be honest i dont need the V10's raw power anymore. That and it has a little less than half the miles that this one has. Its a Lariet that is loaded to the hilt. WHat transmission is in this truck? I've heard nothing but great things about the Torqshift transmissions and I am looking forward to seeing how well it performs over its predecessor.

Have the engine oil pressure checked with a manual gauge after driving it a half hour before it cools down. Make sure it is over 30psi idling in gear with confirmed 5W20 oil. Ford says it needs to be 40psi minimum for proper VCT operation.

The things you have described make it sound reliable. Use Motorcraft filters and xW20 synthetic oil at the severe service maintenance level and it sounds like you will be continuing the care the original buyer maintained it at.

Enjoy Glacier National Park!

If it is ticking you will find out if they honor your warranty, If the 42psi oil pressure hot idling in gear was not with twenty weight oil then you have been deceived, Are you still within three days of purchase?

The ticking noise is a common failure on the VIN 5 engines that have not been serviced regularly with Motorcraft filters and at least semi-synthetic xW20 engine oil meeting the proper spec. (WSS-M2C945-A) on a regular basis. Some VCT cam phasers had early failure anyway.

If this is the source of the noise you hear it could be expensive to repair (warranty).

Not to alarm you but I would at least look into the three day right of recension of contract and see if they will take the vehicle back. Many partial repairs have failed if they go the route of delaying you. If the cam bores are scored or the oil passages are plugged beyond flushing then another engine is the long term repair. No fear just move quick to keep your options open. Good fortune.

Wow. Engine doesn't show any signs of failure. It is coming from down by the goofy S curve of the exhaust. It doesn't speed up or slow down any. At least from what I can tell. I called the dealer whom I know very personally and he said that if I have an issue I'm not comfortable with. Bring it in and he will see to it that the engine is properly fixed. I know and trust him as I knew him before he became the manager of Broadwater Ford.even before he became a dealer.

Hopefully it is just an exhaust leak. Are all the exhaust manifold stud nuts still in place? Check the clamp on the driver's side converter pipe. Are you talking about the area of the flex plate? It could be cracked. I would think that you noticed that on the test drive? Get them to put Motorcraft sparkplugs in it with antiseeze on the ground electrodes. There have been some cases where the sparkplugs could not be extracted with the special tools and the heads had to be removed at upwards of $3000 cost at our local dealers.

If the photo was taken in the parking lot of the Wal-Mart I have been in the same spot while on a missionary trip there a few years ago.
