Repair a/c leak?

My 07 Explorer has a leak on one of the lines going to the rear A/C unit. Dealer wants over $1500 to repair. Says it is mostly labor. Extended warranty says it is not covered... they consider A/C lines in the same category as belts... normal wear and tear maintenance items. That is ridiculous! No way a vehicle with 76K on it should have A/C lines failing. Dealer says it is common because of how they are routed and rub on adjacent objects. Way to go Ford!

My question is, what other options do I have? Can a radiator shop do cut and replace on the bad section and recharge? I have to believe this would be MUCH cheaper.

Many conversion vans with rear A/C had this same issue---rotted lines that had to be replaced.

The solution was using hydraulic hose with inner metal braid made-to-length using suitable fittings for the A/C system. Most any hydraulic hose & fitting shop can do this for you, look for a Parker Store in your area.
