Newbie here with C900 ? or two

I've got a 1969 C900 firetruck & the brakes have frozen the adjusters in the rear Everyone I've called for loaded backing plates wants to know what brand of brakes came on it or any #'s on them

Do any of you have an idea where to buy the brake parts for it?

Thanks ahead Bob

If thy ask for a brand, and part# it might mean that there are different styles and sizes and you have to provide the info they need to get the correct parts.

The guys didn't really want to look up my parts, I found a person that wasn't scared though & she says she'll find them She's interested in doing business Especially after I asked her about rear end parts for the 82' F700 Boom truck I've got here

Several different diameter size brakes available - looks like 15" in both 6&7" width, 16" and it looks like there were also 16.5" sizes available.

First thing to do is measure what size your brakes are, then the proper adjusters can be looked up for that size brake.

The adjusters are a integral part of a bracket riveted to the backing plate That's why I'm hunting loaded backing plates Like Ford used to supply UPS back in the day

Sounds like a good plan, but you still need to figure out what size brakes you have as the backing plate will vary with the different sizes.

No reason to try to source loaded 15" backing plates if you have 16" drums, or visa versa. UPS would have known what brakes it spec'd on its trucks and sourced compatible units from Ford which made it easy as I am sure that UPS had a certain "UPS standard" that it spec'd its trucks to, but who know what fire department spec'd what combination?

And to add a bit more to the pot, there are two different brand brakes used. The size of brake should help determine the manufacture.

I would think that any parts professional that is used to medium and heavy trucks would start with this basic info and go from there? There just is no standard here, it is all in how that particular truck was spec'd out when built.

I do have the Ford parts manual and will help as I can, but absolutely nothing can be done until the brake size is nailed down, at least thru Ford.

No C900's until 1970, C's are Tilt Cabs.

Column right, 2nd entry: Here's the rear brake application charts for 1970/72 C900's.

To determine rear axle capacity, the AXLE code is stamped on the Warranty Plate, located on the inside of the glove box door, or on the left door face below the latch.

Post what the code is and the size of the brake shoes. Also post the VIN .. once decoded will verify what series the truck is...and what year it is.

This VIN is partially incorrect, the 4th & 5th digits are supposed to be letters.

If V13061 is correct, it's a 1975.

The master cyl casting # is FE-23455 is there a way of telling whether this is a single or dual system

There's only one line coming out of it & the others that I have googled show one line on a single or dual system

In looking at the Ford parts manual illustration breakdown, it shows two brake lines from the master cylinder for the dual system... ? One for the single system.

Wish I could post the page like Number Dummy can.
