I would suggest a crown Vic or mustang II front end.

Yep - already got a Crown Vic donor parked out back - 2004 model. Might even put the 4.6 and 4R70W in it too.

If you are going 4.6 get the 32 valve Lincoln.

The 4.6 would be nice but I hardly see anyone rebuild a y block anymore honestly I would rebuild the y block make an adaptor to fit a c6 or aod onto the y block or even a modern 5 speed like the m5od and swap the suspension over. I know where a 1966 swb is but the cab is rotted out I'm trying to buy it. I want one so bad but I just can't seem to find one when I have the cash.

Ya know My 62 Uni drives just fine with stock drums and strong arm steering.
I have towed half way from coast to coast and back with it. No trouble stopping or turning around with even the loaded auto transport on behind her. So to say a 62 just wont do it in todays world don't cut it with me. Just sayin.

Check out mine in my Gallery. Maybe give ya some ideas. Like for instance the way we repaired the tail light lenses that the bulbs had burned a hole in. Most everything on her was scrounged from salvage yards. It was the first stop for parts in the mid 90's when she was put together as she pretty much is today.

The y-block that's in it runs perfect - its new. I bet it doesn't have 500 miles on it since it was overhauled. I'm just not interested in messing with it. It will go to the highest bidder and I'll use the cash for the restoration/customization.

I'll check out your gallery - I know they drive 'ok' in stock form, but I don't want it to be just 'ok'. I want it to be modernized and more user-friendly.

I may change my mind on the y-block eventually - but I definitely do not want the clunky 3-speed behind it.

If your Y is as good as ya say than bolt on some HP and run it. They sound so cool
and preform very well. I understand they won NASCAR in 57. That would make them what?
The fastest in stock car in America back then. Nostalgia can be had with modern luxuries too ya know.
It's already in there and running. I would put a late
5 speed overdrive behind it. But the AOD/E4OD works okay as well I guess for some.
I don't trust any auto built after the C6, Turbo 350/400, 727 and like that.
They all 3 speed with no overdrive but tough as freaking stainless spikes compared to what I have
seen with the newer overdrive Autos. Again JMHO.

Dunno if anyone heard it in the new video or not, but the clutch in this truck was raising hell. It was making several different sounds - the throwout was obviously dry and noisy, but it was also making this horrible squealing sound just as it would engage. I wasn't sure what it was and I was worried the throwout was going to grenade on me so I pulled the transmission out today and dropped the clutch out. Opened up a can of worms...lol.

I suspect a previous owner must have had the engine overhauled by a very competent engine builder, but I think a shadetree installed it. The flywheel, although smooth and flat on the friction surface, has a deep wear groove (the entire width of the clutch lining) and the center part of the disc was actually making contact with flywheel surface towards the center. That's where the squealing was coming from just as it was engaging. Then they musta lost a couple of the clutch pressure plate mount bolts so they just used a couple grade 5 bolts in place...one of which broke off. I had to extract it from the flywheel. Also, the fingers on the pressure plate were all screwed up for various reasons. The adjustment screws on all three of them were badly worn - one ground completely off. I had to extract two of the three. Here's a few pics:
