I have shipped large items to a member in AZ a few times. They packages were 20 to 35 pounds and only cost twenty to twenty five dollars. I shipped them directly from the ups hub with 500 dollars insurance. If he crated the items with luan and 2x2's he could ship all but the bumpers in one crate. If he was willing. The bumpers could be shipped as is. That is how whitney ships them.

The key is to NOT go to the UPS store with raw parts and have them wrap and ship them. You'll end up paying 2-3 times the actual cost.
I ship large stuff all the time via Fedex. I recently shipped a T5 transmission from Pennsylvania to Florida for just over $50.
The key is in preparation.
I get used refrigerator boxes for free and carefully cut and wrap grilles, tailgates, radiator supports, etc in cardboard then shrink wrap.
It's no where near as costly as everyone makes it out to be.
Really large stuff that goes into dimensional freight category goes via Greyhound Freight. I shipped a hard half top for a Jeep Scrambler from Pa to Wa for about $100.
