1990 5.0 EEC dead- CEL always on-what to do before installing replacement
I posted about this in Van forum, but thought there would be more visibility here. It is a 1990 E250, 5.0 EFI, automatic, dual tanks.
I parked this over a year ago, running OK. Now cranks, no start. Spark, no fuel.
main Fuel pump works if relay jumpered. The computer ground wire to the relay has voltage. The EEC computer has a burnt/damaged component (#1?). The check engine light stays on even with key out. No codes were read with Innova ford code reader. I have just replaced both fuel system relays (green and brown) Still no fuel, removed EEC. Now I realize EEC computer needs replacing, but will whatever damaged the original one just toast the replacement? I'm hesitating installing new computer and toasting it like this one! Does the C.E. light without key mean ignition switch is bad ? Van has sat in salt air environment so I'm used to bad electrical contacts but not able to determine what caused EEC damage. Another thing is even after removing EEC from harness - check engine light remained on. I'm not sure how to proceed other than installing new EEC and seeing if that works?
The black/white component on circuit (labeled #1) is what burned out.

will try a reman dcm, but no obvious damage here
I pulled it and looked inside- no obvious burnt or badly corroded areas. But , van has been sitting a few hundred yards from the ocean so corroded connections are a way of life here. I have a remanufactured unit so about to try that and see if it starts.
