rear end gear ratios

My 52 is almost completely stock. The only thing I don't like is going 45-50 mph on the freeway. Is there a fairly "easy" gear change to make for higher speeds? Can most any shop handle it? Can it be done by a novice? Thanks a bunch!

Since you said your truck is almost completly stock so I assume you still have the Dana 44 rearend. You can get new gears but you have probally a 3.92. So to use a higher ratio than 3.73 you will need a different ring carrier. Any place should be able to do it. You can do it's not hard I'm almost done rebuilding mine and I'm 16. It helps to have a shop manual. Any place that deals with rearends should be able to get you new ring, pinion and carrier.

So would a Dana 44 be on my 54 that I pulled off? It said it has 3.92's from the ID tag. Are they worth anything? Are they strong? ANYONE WANT TO BUY MINE?!?!?!?

The Dana 44's are just as good as a 9". It has about the same following as the 9" but on the offroading side since they were mainly used on the front of 4x4's. Some new trucks still use them or variations like the Dana 60 and 70. Those rear ends are basically just bigger versions of the Dana 44. I don't know much about the Dana 30 and 50. Just how much you learn when you look around for information on rebuilding one.
