Newbie with PSOM and OD questions

Hello Everyone!

92 Ford F150 Custom, 5.8, Auto, 4x4, 155,000 miles

I started out trying to research a fairly simple question and ran across your forum. Reading through the threads, one thing lead to another! I'd like to be an active member and offer my insights when appropriate.

My 2 questions:

The button for Overdrive is on the steering column, I know it's functioning because when I press the button, the RPM's change (don't know how much, no tach). Is there a light that should display when the overdrive is on or off? If so, how do I change that light?

Second, while researching the OD issue, I saw threads about the PSOM. I changed my tire size from 235/75/15 to 245/75/16. I have been looking but I can't find a "conversion constant" to make the change. Anyone have any helpful direction?

Thanks for the help!

Tom

Welcome to the forum!

I don't know about the overdrive button issue-I drive a manual.

But the following article should answer your question about reprogramming the PSOM:

HOW TO RECALIBRATE THE SPEEDOMETER ON 92-96 FORD F-SERIES AND BRONCO .: Articles

No offense but I do not like that article. It states you use a different multiplier for 15 vs. 16 inch tire which is completely false. The reason for the multiplier difference is based on the different number of teeth on the exciter ring for a 8.8" rear axle vs. a Sterling 10.25 (108 vs. 120).

The OD button just pops out. Use a small screwdriver in the small slot on the panel side of shifter to pop it out. Go to pull-a-part and pop one out of just about any mid nninties thru 2000 truck. If it has the button on the shifter it should fit.

Don't get a screwdriver anywhere near those old plastic parts, things will break off. You can get a button replacement for very cheap, mine cost about $9 for a OEM part not so long ago. Just pull out the plastic ring from the top of the lever, then slide the tab, then pull the button out, the assembly is the exact opposite of this.
