I know I need one. I have a sorta strange house layout. I don't even know what would work. Makes shopping difficult when you don't know what exactly your looking for. Lol

Well.. If you don't have plenty of land to get wood from, be ready to pay a good chunk of change for it.

I installed a pellet stove when I bought the house and have regretted every penny spent on it.
Oil was cheaper when all things considered.

Heat rises. And moving it around is a pita. If you have an open plan house, it's easier but if it's got lots of walls... good luck! Put fans on doorways to move it but you lose a good amount of heat like that.
And try to install on a central location so it's easier..

Ugh.. I could keep going on and to be honest, if you have to buy the wood, make sure you calculate everything.

Yes they do and they aren't cheap.. also, the hopper on them is very small so you'll be constantly filling it

Yah I hear that. I've got a line on some for fair price. A combination of regular heat and wood would still save me $$ . And really, who can't use more $$ for truck stuff :-)

I know ray... That's why I usually just raise the thermostat if I want more heat...

I heat with natural gas so price isn't as bad as oil

Don't forget to account for raising wood prices. Possible delivery fees. And then dealing with stacking all that wood and constantly having to go outside and deal with frozen tarps to get to the wood and bringing it inside.. Then you have to worry about filling it every so often. How much ks your time worth? What about your back?
Oh.. and the cleaning of the stove.

Oh the cleaning. If you decide to use a vacuum to help clean, then you add another $45 every 1-2 months for a heppa filter cuz the rest will allow the particles to go right through them.

And then.. If you need fans to move the air around, make sure to account for the electricity. I failed to account for that part and if I remember correctly, they cost me an additional $30 a month on the electricity bill.

Just some things that people tend to forget...

I did natural gas when I lived in manchester. I think it cost me $30-60 a month to heat a 950 Sq ft appt.

Now I have to shell out about 300 a month with a 1800 Sq ft home. That's with pellets boys!
Oil costs me about the same and the convenience of is priceless.

I need to own a trailer just to heat with pellets. With oil, I need to own a phone so I can call and order

The manual labor aspect of heating with wood or pellets turns me off... You don't save much if you factor labor in..

Also pellets are a processed fuel, so your still at the mercy of the manufacturer and middle man.
