Ok so my better half has decided she needs a fat fender truck. We went a little off the reservation on this one. It will physically be in the garage next week.

'55 IH R-120 3/4 ton 2wd. Barely running OHV I6 and 3 speed. It will get a lot of Ford parts, IH parts really dont exist. A powerstroke (International) engine would be nice, but that stuff is pricey. Post your ideas to " Pimp my truck, a Fordification!"

That looks exceptionally clean! I really like IH's, very sturdy trucks. I thought there was still good parts support for the OHV straight-6's and V8s, but I haven't had one in 25 yrs. Keep it stock!!

It fired up and ran, it had been sitting. The carter 1v most likely needs cleaned, along with some new points, wires and plugs. The brakes are gone, most likely wheel cylinders or master cylinder from sitting. It has the 2 stage HD springs in the rear.
the split window seems to be not very common.

Keep the binder stock ! Parts are out there . They are ( were ) great trucks . Do a bit of research and I think you will find it fairly easy to restore/maintain that great looking old truck !

X whatever on keeping her as stock as ya can.
Where is Corn-binder Havi at?
If anyone knows Binders it's him me thinks.
He may know some parts sources I would bet.
I also like the old Binders and Dodge Bro's trucks.
Ya can have yer GM's. They are a dime a dozen.
Although I had a 57 GMC 272 I6 with factory
duel carbs and a short stepside box that I did love.
In fact I loved her to death.

I don't know how to post a link. on CL see "1949 kb3" on craigslist seattle. It's in Walla Walla, Wa. Is this thing a factory dually pickup? Are those wide rear fenders from Ft. Wayne Indiana? All original or not, is not my choice. This is her truck.

Somethings I would like (so shes doesnt kill herself), would be improved stopping and knock down some body roll.

But Ross, look how easy to work on (or swap) the engine with that tilt nose. That's not rough, and I already have some flat green house paint for the box and fenders......Actually my wife says lets go to Walla Walla and pick that dually thing up. Her best GF from the island moved there two years ago.... What Luck! Now there's 2 wifes out there ( Me and Dobies) that like the 'binders. Oh, and thanks for posting the link. She think's the scout is a bit loud though, and a smoke show at cold start.Like her beater '85 5 cyl NA wagon in the background doesn't smoke... . sheesh

When I worked at the service station many years ago boss had a scout we used for snow plowing, road service, and general parts chasing. You couldn't hardly hurt that thing even though we tried! Snow plowing can really beat up a truck, but that scout would come back for more like a dog chasing a stick.

There is an IH Truck Forum that you might find useful and their are parts suppliers much the same as Dennis Carpenter . We had a lot of IH Trucks on the farm , still have a few .

I had the same thought process BigJob. A few weeks ago I saved a 300 I6 with 108k from the scrap yard. Low oil pressure issues. It came with an E4OD. Or I have an extra ZF'42 for a manual. the 300 is an awesome truck motor, and cheap to rebuild at the same time. Im not against the IH engine, but a modern OD trans would be nice... if it can be done.

Changing ring gear would be nice as well. a top speed of 45mph just wont cut it.

The rubber thats on the truck needs changed for some street rubber.
